Commercial Kitchen Pull Alarm

Half Fire Alarm, Half Grenade

The manual actuation devices, or "pull alarm," in a commercial kitchen is key.

The actuation device protects the kitchen from grease fires begun beneath the cooking surface. Specific guidelines govern their placement:

  • The device must exist near the means of egress.
  • The device must be installed 42-48" above the floor.
  • The device must be installed 10-20' away from the cooking surface.
  • The device must clearly indentify the hazard areas it protects.

For basic information, consult CCPIA's Commercial Standards of Practice. For a more in-deth study, the NFPA has several resources.
